IMR has established its goal to develop a top-ranking research institute since it entered the Knowledge Innovation Project approved by CAS in 1999. It emphasizes the establishment of cooperative relationships and partnerships with scientific research institutes and organizations in materials science and engineering both at home and abroad. It has now signed 103 international cooperation agreements and memorandums with foreign research organizations including mutual exchanges of research fellows and joint training of Ph.D. students. Meanwhile, high-ranking scientific and technological cooperation with foreign partners are developing fast.
As a sponsor, IMR has organized series of international academic conferences and bilateral seminars. There are 14 IMR scientists holding positions in 29 international academic organizations and 10 scientists holding positions of editors or associate editors in several international journals. It has also invited more than 300 scientists and scholars from different countries to IMR for academic activities and has sent out 150 researchers to go abroad for international conferences, advanced studies, cooperative research and joint training of Ph.D. students each year in recent years.
