The materials with higher temperature capabilities allow the power systems or the component parts to operate at higher temperatures and thus provide opportunity for higher efficiencies, which have become of vital importance to reduce CO2 emission and thus to the prevention of global warming.
The High Temperature Materials Unit (HTMU) in the NIMS has been leading the research and development of single crystal superalloys, wrought superalloys, coating materials and new high-temperature materials for the key components in the advanced aero-space and land-base engines.
In this talk, the latest accomplishments of the work will be introduced. Possible applications of the developed materials to advanced civil aero engines and land-base engines will also be described in the context of CO2 emission and fuel cost reduction.
