题 目:Non-Covalent Functionalized CNTs as Highly Active Catalyst Supports for Fuel Cells

Due to its unique electronic and mechanical properties, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been attracting more and more attention as favourite carbon nanomaterials for energy conversion and storage applications. However, CNTs require molecular engineering such as chemical oxidation to tailor its electronic solid state properties for exploring and developing its applications. The acid oxidation methods usually lead to poor dispersion of Pt nanoparticles and covalent functionalization will have significant effect on the electronic properties of CNTs. The high electronic conductivity is very important for catalyst support applications. Thus, non-covalent functionalization is preferred for catalyst support application, because it enables attachment of molecules or charged polyelectrolytes through - stacking or hydrophobic interactions thus, still preserving the intrinsic electronic and structural properties of CNTs.

The non-covalent functionalization of CNTs by polyelectrolytes such as poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) has been shown to be effective for the self-assembly of Pt NPs on the CNTs. In this seminar, the development and synthesis of highly dispersed Pt, PtRu and PtAu nanoparticles on CNTs functionalized by polyelectrolytes such as PDDA and chitosan will be presented. The results show that the self-assembly of Pt-based nanoparticles on non-covalent functionalized CNTs is an efficient route for the development of highly efficient electrocatalysts for fuel cells. Finally, the latest results of CNTs with specific characteristics (i.e, number of walls and diameters) on the water electrolysis will also be reported.
