Abstract
This lecture will explore cutting-edge developments in materials science, especially in magnetic materials, focusing on two key areas: nanoparticle synthesis and permanent magnet materials. Innovative nanoparticle production techniques, including Chemical Vapor Condensation (CVC) and Pulsed Arc Discharge (PAD) methods, will be discussed. These processes have revolutionized the large-scale production of high-purity nanoparticles, opening up new possibilities in various industrial applications.
The second part of the lecture will include research results on permanent magnets, particularly the development of non-rare earth magnetic materials, including successful creation of new compositions and process improvements for replacing rare earth permanent magnetic materials, resulting in the world-record coercivity in Mn-Al permanent magnets, Mn-Bi alloys with the world's highest maximum magnetic energy product, and the development of bulk Fe-rich alloys. Throughout the lecture, how these advancements contribute to solving critical materials challenges, from creating more efficient processes to developing sustainable alternatives to nano-magnetic materials, will be highlighted. Additionally, research cooperation between China and Korea, especially in the area of magnetic materials, will be explained.
